Saturday 60km, Sunday 60km, Monday 110km. Hmmmm, the legs are coping better now. Had weighed up the bike on Saturday, wow, what a mission to push the pedals… Average speed about 20kmph. I expect the average speed on the trip will be between 15 – 20kmph.
I am not pushing myself hard as at the moment. Keeping in mind you will never be at top fitness at the start of the bike ride. It will take a week or 2 to get the legs and body into the groove of things. The main thing I am concentrating on is spinning the legs and keeping them fresh so to speak. Once we figure out our routine for each day all will be better. Andrew’s training also went well. Looks like we will be ready for a great adventure
After yesterday’s ride I wanted to see how an 80km ride effects my legs. The average speed what I was aiming for was around 20kmph however the route was hilly .
Overall the ride was good, legs were ok but tiring. I have not pushed for speed opting for a more constant pace to get the feel of the bike and what lies ahead… I am feeling the weight of the bike and soon i will have to put the gear on so i can then deal with a complete packed bike. All this training is a must so i can reduce any risk of surprises.
After a week of challenging weather I managed to get back on the bike:) I had to go to the post office in Germany to send Andrew’s passport back to him. My leg’s are feeling better and as long as I keep the mileage going all will be ready for the planned start date. When I am not on the bike I am sorting out the necessary logistical challenges from scheduling to getting the bike ready. The countdown is on but we will be ready:)
